This little wine tavern is a local institution. Although a little hard to find, it is worth visiting, at least once, for cheap, truly homemade Greek food cooked-to-order by the Prevezanos family.

Venetsianiko Pigadi ("Venetian Well")
Everything about this place is attractive. The walls are painted with themes from the world's four major religions, the silverware and the linens are impeccable, the music is classical, the setting is Venetian. The owner and chef, Spyros Kontopoulos, has been improving his labor of love for the last 17 years with humility and good taste. A good wine list.

The owner, Italian chef Etrusco Botrini, spent years as a cook and chef at the Club Med chain worldwide and settled here with his Corfiot wife, son, and Italian daughter-in-law, a few years ago, to start this gem of a restaurant on his wife's property. During our visit, the music was Ella Fitzgerald sings Cole Porter, and the place filled up after 10 pm with the creme-de-la-creme of Corfiot society, including expats, consuls general, etc. Appetizers are €10-17, salads €5-12, and entrees €13-33. Dress: casual chic.
