Liapades is situated about 20 km from Corfu town, at the northern end of an area called "The Ropa Valley" and above Liapades beach. Is an area of forest, vineyards and small plots of agricultural land. The village is picturesque and has the typical Ionian architecture. Is has about 950 inhabitants.
Once you reach the village square you can sit at one of the many cafe-bars with all the locals and experience the Greek way of life. Try an ouzo or even Tzitzibeer(Ginger-beer). Tzizibeer is a refreshing drink only made on this island and sold in very few cafes. It is made from fresh lemons and ginger and has no preservatives. It is only produced in the hot summer months as the sun is needed to make it.
There is also a beautiful church in the square that has been fully restored to its original state. The church is called St. Anastasias and was built around 1600-1650. Have a look inside and take photographs of the beautifully painted ceiling and pictures. Well worth a visit! If you are lucky you may even see a wedding or christening take place.
You may even see a donkey heavily loaded with hay. (Please ask before taking photos of locals as not everyone likes their photograph being taken).
The whole area around the village is a maze of small roads, tracks, trails and ancient donkey paths. Some walks pass through clearings high above the coastline with fantastic unspoilt views over the various bays. Tracks and trails can lead the walker down to small secluded, mostly stony beaches where most visitors arrive by boat. One track passes over the high ridge above Kanakades and the tracks and trails stretch on down the south eastern side to Giannades, Marmaro and Kanakades traditional non tourist villages. These guides have been prepared to enable walkers to enjoy this wonderful unspoilt area by understanding the layout of the tracks and trails and to know where they are walking and to avoid confusion.
 The main road/track above the village is really one big circle. The village at the north and the communication masts south at the highest point. Walking time to complete the circle and see the views across to Paleokastritsa from the highest point. Allow about 2hours. The master map outlines the main tracks layout and the various walks and access ways to beaches, bays and the N.S. Ridge. It should be examined using this map.
The Corfu N.S. Walking trail passes through the area as it leaves the Ropa Plain at Kanakades climbs up to the ridge where it passes over onto the Northern Side and joins the main circle tracks to Liapades village. The trail is indicated sometimes with a small yellow diamond sign with N.S arrow or sometimes just a yellow arrow painted on a rock or wall.
The beach in Liapades is about 100m long with taxi boats, sun beds, umbrellas, motor boats, and canoes for rent. Don't forget to go schnorking, as the water in the sea it's very clean and has plenty of fish to see. Also rent a boat and ask from the captain to take you to some of the plenty small deserted, but breathtaking beaches, near by reachable mostly by sea.
